Could Cristiano Ronaldo rejoin Manchester United?

The coronavirus has had a devastating impact on the world of football.

Ticket sales have come to a halt and clubs’ finances have been hit hard hard. This isn’t just in relation to the lower league sides, but top tier teams too.

Juventus are an example of such, with all of their staff and players having to take a paycut, to help keep the club above water. Italy has been one of the most-affected nations of the virus, with the Serie A being the first major league to suspend their fixtures back in March.

The situation is expected to have a rippling effect on transfers this year, with many clubs being hesitant to spend big, due to a lack of projected revenue. Due to circumstances, Cristiano Ronaldo’s future has come into question at Juventus, as the Old Lady may look to cash in on their main star.

Various reports have flirted with the idea, as the club are struggling to extend his current £500,000 a week deal, which runs out in 2022. If they unable to tie down the forward, Juve could look to offload the Portuguese international off their books.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for their former player, news that will be treated with a mixed response from the Old Trafford faithful. Ronaldo is no doubt a club legend, with his name still being sung in the red side of Manchester to date, but one has to question whether the move makes financial sense.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has just turned thirty-five and surely only has a couple seasons left in him. With a rumoured fee of £68m circulating, not many will be expecting Ed Woodward to reach this far into his back pocket.
