Manchester United have joined the race for RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano, according to Sky Sports News.
The 21-year-old is one of the most in-demand names across Europe, with Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Arsenal also being cited as interested.
Operating as a center-back, Upamecano has enjoyed a major breakthrough season under Julian Nagelsmann, starting in his side’s last twenty-one Bundesliga games. He joined Leipzig back in 2017 from Red Bull Salzburg, where he has since enjoyed a steady rise in development, now standing as one of the most promising talents in the game.
The above report states that United are looking for a new defender this summer, particularly with Phil Jones’ and Chris Smalling’s futures being in doubt.
Talks are still at an early stage though, with the coronavirus pandemic inevitably effecting transfer negotiations. With other top pedigree clubs also being interested, this deal will not be a straightforward one to conclude.
It is one certainly worth following though, as the Red Devils have constantly been linked with a new CB. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears keen to strengthen his options at the back, so we’ll keep a close eye on any new developments.
